Teacher of the Month

How long have you been a teacher (overall and along the Grand Strand)?  I am currently in my 8th year of teaching.I started my teaching career in Winslow, Arizona where I taught 6th grade. I then moved to Mississippi where I spent 3 years in the Mississippi Delta teaching 4th and 5th grade! I then moved to Myrtle Beach, where I have spent the last 3 years teaching 5th grade at Myrtle Beach Elementary! 

What led you into teaching and what continues to motivate you?  I began my college career going to school to be in radio broadcasting. While I was in college, I worked at our local elementary school in the before and after school program. As I finished my second year of college, I realized my heart was not in radio. I loved going to my job at the elementary school and working with kids. I decided to change my major and go to school for elementary education! What continues to motivate me are the kids. I get to come to work every day to a beautiful school building, a great group of kids, and a job that I truly love. 

What was your reaction to winning the award?  I was truly surprised! I had no idea that I was nominated and it definitely caught me off guard. I definitely teared up a little! 

What was the reaction of your class?  My class was ecstatic! Chrissy Mays even said, “this is the most excited I’ve ever seen a class!” That in itself was encouraging. 

Have you been to Sky Zone before? If so, what was your experience like?  Yes! I have been a couple of times bringing my own children. They love going to Skyzone!

What do you find most rewarding about being a teacher?  The most rewarding part of being a teacher is getting to know my students and molding them into leaders!

Outside of the classroom, what are some of your interests?  I love spending time with my family. I have 3 toddlers and one teenager! My husband and I love to take our family to the beach, play at the park (or SKYZONE!!!), and spend our days outside!
