2025-26 May Teacher of the Month
Meet Lauren Chancey, the final Teacher of the Month from the 2025-26 School Year! She started her career at the same school she is currently at 14 years later…St. James Elementary.
Teacher of the Month
How long have you been a teacher? I have been teaching for 14 years.
How long have you been at your current school and what grade do you teach? I have been teaching First grade at St. James Elementary for 14 years.
What led you into teaching and what continues to motivate you? I have always had a passion for helping young children learn and grow. It is an honor to help shape the future of our society. Teaching children not only academics but how to be kind individuals is very important to me. It is a joy to see past students all grown up and thriving. I hope to be a small happy piece of the puzzle of each child’s life and someone they can remember that helped them not only grow but brought them joy.
What was your reaction to winning the award? I had no idea I was going to be getting this award. I was in a meeting when I was told to head back to my classroom for a surprise. I was definitely surprised and excited! I am very thankful that a parent nominated me. It was very kind of them.
What was the reaction of your class? Pure joy! They started cheering and jumping up and down.
Have you been to Sky Zone before? If so, what was your experience like? Yes! I have 3 of my own kids (a 6, 4, and 2 year old). We go all the time and love it! Sky Zone has many fun areas to explore. We spend hours there.
What do you find most rewarding about being a teacher? Every student is different so it is my goal to help each child in their own way. Building relationships is very rewarding and helping them be successful and make their own individual progress makes the job very rewarding.
Outside of the classroom, what are some of your interests? I love spending time with my family, going to the beach, running, and traveling.
Anything else you’d like to add? Thank you, Sky Zone, for this award!
