Teacher of the Month
How long have you been a teacher?
I’ve been teaching for 18 years now! Time really flies when you’re doing something you love.
How long have you been at your current school and what grade do you teach?
This is my first year at Ten Oaks Elementary, and I teach Gifted and Talented students in grades 3–5, but I truly see all of the students at Ten Oaks as “my kids.” We have such a wonderful community, and I love being part of their learning journeys.
What led you into teaching and what continues to motivate you?
I’ve always loved working with kids and knew early on that I wanted to help them grow and reach their potential. What keeps me motivated is seeing their excitement when they finally “get” something or watching them grow more confident in themselves. Those little moments of joy and connection are what make teaching so special to me.
What was your reaction to winning the award?
Honestly, I was shocked! It was such a sweet surprise, and it really made my day. It’s nice to be recognized for doing something that truly fills my heart.
What was the reaction of your class?
My students were so excited. They started cheering and clapping! Their energy and excitement made it even more meaningful.
Have you been to Sky Zone before? If so, what was your experience like?
Yes, I’ve been to Sky Zone a few times. It’s always a blast! It’s one of those places where everyone’s smiling, laughing, and having fun together. I love seeing kids (and adults!) just let loose and enjoy themselves.
What do you find most rewarding about being a teacher?
The best part of teaching is building relationships with my students and watching them grow throughout the years. When they realize what they’re capable of, it’s the best feeling ever. Knowing I get to play even a small role in that makes every day worth it.
Outside of the classroom, what are some of your interests?
Outside of school, I love spending time with my family and being involved in our community.
Anything else you’d like to add?
I just want to say thank you to Sky Zone for recognizing teachers! It means so much to feel appreciated, and I’m so grateful to do what I love every single day.
