Have A Blast With These Trampoline Activities For Preschoolers

There’s really nothing more fun than playing with preschoolers; every age of childhood has its own special magic, but there’s something really unique about the age window between toddlerhood and kindergarten. Preschoolers are full of laughter, imagination, and joy and love to play games with their peers, siblings, and parents. They also have a lot of energy, and if your preschooler is constantly turning the couch into a trampoline or a launchpad, you know what we mean. There are so many great activities for preschoolers, but trampoline jumping, in particular, can teach them so many important skills while also being a total blast. The best part is that many of the games you enjoyed as a child are still fun today, and they’re perfect active indoor games for preschoolers, too.

Unlike younger toddlers, preschoolers are able to actively engage in games and organized activities. If you’re looking for fun indoor activities for preschoolers, look no further than Sky Zone! Our Freestyle Jump area is the perfect place for younger kids to explore, make new friends, and discover the power of play. Turn off the screens and enjoy some active indoor games for preschoolers instead.

Kids of all ages love to jump and bounce around. It’s fun to test the limits of gravity and experiment with twirls, flips, and somersaults or to grab your friend’s hand and jump together. Bouncing on a trampoline is also a great physical activity for children; jumping increases their heart rate and helps them refine their coordination and motor skills. Fun, friendship, health benefits — it’s a total win-win, so put on the Sky Zone socks and get to playing!

It’s a good idea to do some simple bouncing with your preschooler to “warm up” and boost their confidence, especially if this is your first visit to a trampoline park. Once they’re feeling comfortable on the springy surface, you should also make sure your preschooler is aware of simple safety rules. Instruct them to give other children adequate space while jumping and to be aware of their surroundings as they jump. Be sure you and your child are aware of Sky Zone’s safety rules, including the “one child per trampoline” rule. If there are older kids nearby, make sure your preschooler knows that their jumps may be higher and stronger and could knock them off balance. In addition, parental supervision is imperative while you’re playing; keeping an eye on your child is key to keeping them safe. Many Sky Zone locations also offer a Toddler Zone if your child is more comfortable jumping and playing with younger kids.

Active Indoor Games for Preschoolers

Keep your preschoolers active and engaged with simple games designed to get them moving and laughing during your trip to the trampoline park. These activities for preschoolers are simple but enjoyable for all ages, so don’t be afraid to get in the game too!

Freeze Game: Kids of all ages love the classic Freeze Game. Designate one child or parent to be the “Freezer.” If they yell “FREEZE!” jumpers should immediately stop what they’re doing and stay in one position until the leader says “GO!” This helps preschoolers work on their balance and core strength, as well as their listening skills.

Balloon Catch: Balloons may be easier for younger children to catch than a small ball, and if you’re visiting Sky Zone for a birthday celebration, you probably have a few on hand! You can turn a simple balloon into a variety of games, including a solo play activity where your child throws their balloon in the air and must catch it before it hits the ground or another where your child must keep it aloft by bouncing it with their hands, feet or their head.

Hot Potato: This game requires a small group of children to play. Grab a beanbag or squishy ball — something easy to hold while standing on a trampoline — and have the children pass it to one another while music plays. When you stop the music, whoever is holding the ball or beanbag is “out.” The goal is to get the “hot potato” out of your hands as quickly as possible; the unstable surface of the trampoline adds an extra layer of fun to one of the most classic activities for preschoolers.

The Floor is Lava: Chances are you played a variation of this game when you were a child, and it’s just as exciting when you’re all grown up — making it one of the perfect active indoor games for preschoolers. This game gets kids flying and hopping from place to place while pretending the floor is lava, so turn your imagination on. Can your child get to the “safe” spot in as few jumps as possible, or think strategically to avoid touching the “lava?”

Imagination Station: Imagination is a powerful tool, and it comes alive at Sky Zone. The wall-to-wall trampolines can be anything you dream of, from a cloud castle to a space station to a jungle paradise, and the imaginative activities for preschoolers never end. If they need a little help thinking of ideas, make up creative scenarios and play along with them; what if the trampoline was a racetrack and you were a race car or a super fast horse? Perhaps it’s a pirate ship on the ocean or a rocket ship heading to the moon.

Classic Tag: Kids of all ages love a good old fashioned game of tag. Preschoolers can easily understand the rules, where one player is “it” and must tag another, so it’s simple to explain. Adding a trampoline surface makes it more challenging, but that much more fun.

Simon Says: Get them moving and using their listening skills with a fun game of Simon Says. Consider trampoline-centric requests like “Simon says bounce three times” or “Simon says do a tuck jump” to suit the setting.

Free Play: When all else fails, give preschoolers the ability to create their own fun with some free play time. Let them come up with their own special games and activities, or challenge them to come up with a game involving a prop, like a ball or stuffed animal — you may just be surprised what they come up with.

No matter how you spend the day at Sky Zone, make it a point to get down on your preschooler’s level and see the world through their eyes. These fun indoor activities for preschoolers are wonderful in their own right, but what your child really loves is spending time bonding and playing with you.
